Windows XP to stay on market into summer
- Microsoft is hedging its bets by keeping Windows XP on the market a little longer rather than shelving it in favor of the new Vista operating system.
The software giant said this week that XP would be available to retailers and PC manufacturers into next summer rather than retiring it in January as originally planned.
The move was a response to a slower-than-expected transition to Vista by Windows users. Information Week said Friday it ran a survey of businesses and found 30 percent had no plans to adopt Vista at all.
IDG News Service said other customers are waiting for a new Vista service pack to come out in the first quarter of 2008 before making the switch. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
