VIA Announces Pico-ITX Motherboard
Taiwan's Via Technologies released the Pico-ITX Motherboard, a new small form factor that is smaller than its miniscule nano-ITX form factor.
Measuring just 10 centimeters (cm) by 7.2 cm, the Pico ITX is designed for Via's C-7 and Eden microprocessor families, and uses chipsets like Via's VX700, which packs the memory controller, integrated graphics, and I/O hub into a single chip instead of two.
Fusing the platform together is the VIA VX700 single-chip core-logic. The VIA VX700 delivers UniChrome Pro II AGP graphics with integrated LVDS and DVI interfaces.
The UniChrome Pro II AGP graphics core features MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and WMV9 hardware acceleration. VIA pairs the UniChrome Pro II AGP graphics core with an optional VT1625M television encoder for composite and S-Video output capabilities.
Audio is provided by VIA’s Vinyl Audio VT1708A high-definition audio codec with 8-channels of analog audio output and S/PDIF. The VT6047 board lacks physical audio outputs onboard, however, VIA provides a front audio header for audio connections.
Integrated PATA and SATA controllers handle storage connectivity. VIA provides one UDMA 133/100/66/33 ATA controller on the VT6047 reference board. Due to small size constraints, the VT6047 features a 44-pin right-angle IDE connector, which typically graces notebook devices. One SATA 3.0 Gbps port is available for additional storage connectivity.
Memory expansion capabilities of the VT6047 reference board are limited to one SO-DIMM socket. The SO-DIMM accommodates DDR2 -400/533 memory up to capacities of 1GB.
Other notable features of the VT6047 reference board include an integrated VT6106S 10/100 Mbps Ethernet controller and USB 2.0 headers for up to four ports.
