Toshiba Qosmio F750 is the first glasses-free 3D laptop (VIDEO)
Elena Vnorovscaia / Chişinău / Moldova.ORG / -- Toshiba reveals the world's first glasses-free 3D laptop, the Qosmio F750.
It's a heavy-set device dedicated to gaming and movies, with a 15.6-inch Full HD lenticular screen that can display 2D and 3D simultaneously in separate windows.
It also rocks an HD webcam that follows your movements and adjusts the 3D effect accordingly, so you can peek at that lovely third dimension from almost any angle you like. Innovative stuff indeed, but we were underwhelmed when we caught a glimpse of Toshiba's concept model back in January.
So has the technology improved since then? Check out our hands-on impressions and video after the break.
The notebook has an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia Geforce GT540M graphics, "distortion-free" Harmon Kardon speakers, a BDXL drive, plus a USB 3.0 port and two of the USB 2.0 variety.
HDMI and VGA outputs were also in attendance, along with an input for a co-axial aerial, which we were told would be "capped off" in the final European model. You'll find complete specs in the PR below.
The eye-tracking system was remarkably quick and refused to be fooled by the sharp movements and embarrassing head-bops we threw at it. However, the adjustment of the 3D effect was slower to catch up. Even a relatively small head movement caused the 3D effect to falter momentarily before settling again.
For about $1,699-2,000 the Toshiba Qosmio F750/02M is an impressive entertainment notebook that’s only real fault is a lack of a full HD screen. Otherwise the specs are equal to or better than a good allrounder and the price isn’t that much higher considering the inclusion of a TV tuner and a Blu-ray player.
A Blu-ray player will still get lots of use via the 15.6in (1,366x768 resolution) screen, but there’s a HDMI port that makes it easy to connect the F750 to a full HD television. There’s also a TV tuner, so you can watch TV on the F750 or record it onto the spacious 750GB hard disk drive.
There aren’t many programs the F750 can’t run smoothly, because it has a Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7-2630QM (2GHz) processor and massive 8GB of RAM. Newer games like Call of Duty: Black Ops can run smoothly at high settings due to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics card. Despite the TV tuner the overall portability is still fairly decent, because the F750 weighs 2.8kg and measures 34.8mm thick, 387.6mm wide and 266.8mm deep.
