The last day of YouTube live streaming trial!
By Stela Roman
YouTube begins trial of new live streaming platform. The test started on Monday and ends today, in conjunction with four partners: Howcast, Next New Networks, Rocketboom and Young Hollywood.
After the ending of the experiment, YouTube will make a decision about how to move forward with this idea.
This is not the first time when YouTube played with live streaming. In the past we saw broadcasts from U2, the Indian Premier League, the White House, and E3.
«This new platform integrates live streaming directly into YouTube channels; all broadcasters need is a webcam or external USB/FireWire camera. Included in the test is a “Live Comments” module which lets you engage with the broadcaster and the broader YouTube community. For the purpose of the trial, this offering will only be available today and tomorrow. Based on the results of this initial test, we’ll evaluate rolling out the platform more broadly to our partners worldwide.», is said on the site's blog.
YouTube warned that there may be some bugs and «bumps along the way», but this is clearly the first step toward taking on competitors like Ustream.tv, Livestream and Justin.tv.
