Report: Dell taking Vista PC orders early
Dell Inc. may sell Vista-loaded personal computers days before Microsoft Corp.'s new operating system officially launches next week, a published report says.
Dell's Web site and phone center reportedly were to begin taking orders for notebooks and desktops loaded with Vista shortly before midnight EST, The Wall Street Journal said Friday.
Customers who order new computers early could receive their Vista-loaded computer Tuesday, the day Vista is scheduled to be available to consumers, the newspaper said.
Microsoft's Vista operating system is bigger than its predecessors and requires a beefed up computer with more memory and additional hard drive space to run all its new graphics and features.
As PC growth worldwide slows and average sale prices fall rapidly, Dell and other computer makers see Vista as a way of boosting sales of its more profitable high-end computers, the Journal said. // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
