oDesk announces that demand for iPhone programming jobs has skyrocketed by 500% over the last six months of this year.

According to oDesk CEO, Gary Swart, Apple's introduction of the 3G iPhone and the iPhone 2.0 platform has driven global demand for oDesk's highly qualified freelance iPhone developers. The App Store and Apple iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) have created a whole new marketplace that oDesk is best able to serve.

For the period from March through September 2008, the oDesk Trends show an increase from under 30 to over 140 jobs per month for iPhone App Developers, iPhone SDK Engineers, and other iPhone programming and consulting jobs. This is due to the increase in demand for iPhone developers worldwide.  oDesk's developers network includes the United States, Russia, India, Ukraine, China and other countries.

oDesk is a company with some interesting concept. It says on its website that hire, manage and pay remote contractors as if they were in your office. oDesk is a company with a global job marketplace and a series of tools targeted at businesses that intend to hire and manage remote workers. Based in Menlo Park, CA, oDesk was founded by Odysseas Tsatalos and Stratis Karamanlakis. The name is a short version of "no desk" which encapsulated the founders' vision of enabling anyone to work anywhere, anytime.

The three things oDesk says it does: (1) Hire the best from thousands of certified and rated professionals; (2) Manage your team as if it were local with a filmstrip view of work performed; and (3) Pay only for hours worked.

Established in 2003, oDesk relies upon proprietary tools to allow buyers real-time visibility into the ongoing activities of remote worker activities to facilitate collaboration and supervision.  For remote workers, the tools were designed to eliminate timekeeping and bookkeeping tasks, as well as ensure that these remote employees get paid for hourly work, even when working for a company in another country.

The specific areas of expertise supported by the site are Web Development, Audio/Video and Multimedia, Software Development, Networking and Information Systems, Graphic Arts and Design, Administrative Support, and Web Marketing/SEO.
