Nikon Unveils the D40x

Last year in November, Nikon unveiled its latest entry-level D-SLR camera: the D40, which featured a 6.1MP DX format CCD sensor, a 2.5" LCD, 2.5 FPS burst mode and a 3-point autofocus system.

Yesterday, Nikon has updated its entry-level model and is now calling it the D40x.

The D40x uses a 10MP CCD sensor. The burst mode has also been increased from 2.5 FPS to 3 FPS and the baseline ISO has been dropped from 200 to 100. From the outside, the badge is the item that distinguishes the D40x from the older D40.

The camera D40 includes 3D Color Matrix Metering II, Nikon Image processing engine, Secure Digital slot (SDHC capable) and USB 2.0 support. Like its D40 counterpart, the D40 does not a have a built-in focus motor. As a result, only Nikon AF-S and AF-I lenses can be used for auto focusing.
Nikon's new D40x will retail for $799 with the included AF-S DX 18-55 mm kit lens.
