Moldtelecom launches 3G/UMTS network in Moldova
The "Moldtelecom" national land telephony operator, which renders mobile telephony services under the Unit© trademark, has launched the 3G/UMTS network for the high-speed mobile Internet. This service is rendered on the entire territory of Moldova with using the fiber-glass approach to the basic stations.
After the launch of the 3G network the UnitГ© clients have a chance to enjoy a higher data transfer speed - up to 14.4 Mbps - at the tariffs from 7.85 lei per 1 GB with a chance to buy modems at special prices.
As Infotag has already reported, the National Regulatory Telecommunication and Information Technologies Agency (NRTITA) granted to Moldtelecom a license on using radio frequencies for the purpose of providing the 3G networks and services as far back as in December 2008.
This license gives the right to provide the 3G common use networks and services in the IMT 2000 system under the conditions of observing the UMTS (W-CDMA) standards. The license terms oblige the operator to provide the 3G network coverage of Chisinau and Balti within the first year, Comrat, Cahul, Orhei, Ungheni and Soroca - within the second year and the remaining raion centers - within the third year.
In December 2009 the NRTITA included the state company into the register of the suppliers of the 3G mobile telephony networks and services after the successful test of its network. The Moldtelecom administration promised to implement the commercial launch of the 3G services in the first quarter of 2010.
