Moldovan citizens pay twice, as much for the access to the Internet than in other countries of Europe and Central Asia. The data of the survey on the information and telecommunications for development state this fact. These data were published on the site of the World Bank.

However, the accessibility of Moldova's population to the Internet is four times lower than the average value for the countries of this region.

The mobile telephony situation is not considerably better. The expenses of Moldovan citizens are 70% higher than the average expenses per one resident of the region and the access to the mobile telephony is twice as less.

In the opinion of the WB experts, it is necessary to intensify competition both in the telecommunications sector and in the field of mobile telephony, as well as in the field of the wideband access to the Internet, in order to improve the situation.

The World Bank refers Moldova to the countries with an average development level of information technologies alongside with Belarus and Russia. The majority of the countries in Europe and Central Asia achieve an impressive growth of the mobile telephony indicators. As a result the number of subscribers exceeded the number of residents.

As of the beginning of October, the penetration level of the wideband access to the Internet accounted in Moldova for 4.63%, and mobile telephony services - 76.1%.
