StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, the long-awaited sequel to 1998's hit, StarCraft is finally alive!
The game launched simultaneously in the US, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and more on July 27, 2010.
StarCraft II was developed for concurrent release on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Apparently the game has three installments. The base game has the subtitle Wings of Liberty. There also are two expansion packs, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.
Pacific Crest Securities' Evan Wilson put the game's sales at 6 million, while Wedbush's Michael Pachter felt Starcraft II and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm could combine to sell 12 million through the end of 2010.
Signal Hill's Todd Greenwald wrote: "We have picked up nothing but positive data points on the recent launch of Starcraft II--from South Korea to New York, the excitement over SCII is palpable. We think that rough estimates for Starcraft II to sell 5-6 million units this year are highly achievable and will prove to be conservative over the next five months."
Well, Blizzard has yet to offer official sales figures for the title. So, let's wait and see.
