Domain .MD to become cheaper
The Moldovan Ministry of Information Technologies and Telecommunications and the MoldData enterprise will reduce the price for the domain .md by 20% from April 1. The registration of the domain will cost $39.
Domain Administrator, MoldData Director Pavel Chireev told Infotag that it is a natural process, as with the increase in the number of registered domains the price per domain decreases.
"The domain .md has 8 thousand addresses and about 57 names. During 2009 their number increased by 3.8 thousand", he said.
In Chireev's words, about a half of all the registered addresses are active during a relatively short term.
The first step in the decrease of prices began on March 1, when the prices on the registration and on servicing the domain names were reduced by 50%.
In the minister's opinion, the price decrease will result in the increase in the number of domain users.
The domain .md represents Moldova in the Internet and is the state's property. The administrator of this domain is the MoldData state enterprise. During a long rime the domain was administered by the dotMD company, which positioned the domain for organizations and physical persons, who refer to medicine. В In 2001 MoldData transferred the main DNS-server, which serves the domain .md, from the USA to Moldova. That time the domain registration cost was $60. Until April 1 the domain registration price constitutes $49, if the registration is for two years, the price is reduced to $47 a year and for ten years in advance - $36 a year.
