Big torrent website shut down
BTJunkie torrent website was shut down voluntarily at the end of last week. It was one of the most popular user-generated content website.
BTJunkie.org was among the top 5 torrent websites, storing more than four million active files.
“This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down. We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on,” shows the webpage at the moment.
The closure comes after several countries have signed the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) which is designed to punish those who violate the intellectual property rights.
The internet users will protest on February 11 against ACTA. Access, which is an organization that states it is a “new global movement for digital freedom” is trying to mobilize people to rally against the agreement.
“Protests are being organized all over the globe to show the European Parliament that they must reject ACTA. Though many countries have signed the treaty already, if the EP rejects ACTA, it will be sent into the dustbin on history!” says Access.
